Konstantina Zompola – Landscapes

For Konstantina Zompola, painting begins with the rhythm of her steps. On her walks she gathers no topographic sketches, but physical impressions: the structure of the ground, the light, and the way vegetation and water shape a place.

In this exhibition two geographical extremes meet: the rugged, dry inland of northern Greece and the low, water-rich landscape of the northern Netherlands. At first glance the differences are large — where the Greek Vrodero is dominated by arid earth tones, heat and stubborn thistles, the Dutch work shows saturated green, mirroring water and reed beds.

And yet the affinity is at least as strong. Zompola looks at the Dutch landscape with the same Greek eye. She does not paint the north grey or subdued, but gives the water and the fields an intense, almost southern colour strength and warmth.

What emerges are not literal portraits of existing places, but hybrid forms. Northern and southern landscape overlap, and a new, personal territory takes shape at the intersection of memory, perception and imagination.

BiographyKonstantina Zompola | Athens, Greece, 1997

Konstantina Zompola is a visual artist and art teacher, currently dividing her time between Greece and the Netherlands. She earned an integrated bachelor’s degree from the School of Fine Arts at the University of Ioannina (Greece) and an MFA in ‘Visual Arts and Landscape: Visual Approach to Natural and Urban Space’ from the School of Fine Arts in Florina (Greece).

Her painting practice centres on exploring landscape as an embodied field of experience, memory and transformation. Rooted in the lived topographies of northern Greece (the Prespa region) and the wide horizons of the northern Netherlands, her work uses walking and observation to create ‘in-between spaces’ where the real and the imaginary merge. Natural and organic forms, human presence and water come together in layered, expressive compositions.

Konstantina has had solo exhibitions in Athens (METS Arts Centre, 2025) and Groningen (Y2 Art Space, 2026) and has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in Greece and across Europe.
