Kamilė Česnavičiūtė – Schilderijen

Kamilė Česnavičiūtė creates paintings that draw the viewer into a speculative, timeless world. Her work explores the boundaries of the self and the relationships between humans, non-human beings and their often strange, ambiguous environments. With an intuitive colour palette, she constructs scenes poised between familiarity and alienation. In Spells and Rituals, a bluish figure lies on its side in an icy green field, caught between a bowl on the ground and a dark element at the upper edge. The pose evokes a quiet inner ritual: a moment of rest, recovery or seclusion. The painting Sustain our own bodies shows a shimmering, warm-red environment occupied by robust bowls and vessels. A slender blue arm reaches from nowhere towards the opening of the largest bowl. The vessels act as extensions of the human body—repositories for what nourishes and sustains it. Two works, two opposing palettes, yet the same logic: colour, rather than form, determines the temperature of the scene.Česnavičiūtė visualises the tangible boundary between our physical existence and the objects or rituals through which we sustain ourselves.
